For the most part when I'm writing, I'm a plantser, which for me means that I often start writing an idea down, sometimes it's just a random scene, without really knowing where the story's going.
I love this way of writing because it allows my creativity to just run wild, and I often find my characters surprising me with new things I hadn't thought of before until they just pop out of my head while the words are flowing. The problem though is that I quite often find myself needing more; whether it's more insight into the characters or more ways to develop and move the plot forward. So, when I spotted Jessica Adren Cline's Kickstarter campaign last year called, 'Tarot for Fiction Writers', which promised lots of creative and fun ways to use tarot to inspire and develop stories, I knew I wanted to try it.

With my debut book, Spellbound: A Fantasy Short Story Collection now out in the world, I thought it might be fun to introduce myself and share a few tidbits about me and my writing.
I was thinking of doing an Ask Me Anything over on Instagram but just in case no one asks any questions, I figured this could be a fun alternative. (And there's the first thing to know about me: self-doubt is my constant companion.) I've enjoyed writing for as long as I can remember. I used to play around on my grandparents' typewriter, creating new stories and rewriting stories I'd read that I wished had ended differently. The first story I remember writing was about a young girl who discovered a magical portal inside a lighthouse. When she stepped through the portal she was transported to an underwater world where she could speak to the fish and other creatures (I watched A LOT of Bedknobs and Broomsticks as a child.)

If the answer's a big old 'yes', keep reading! Are you a new writer?
Maybe you've already started writing, maybe you're still working on the idea for a story, or maybe you already have a completed first draft. No matter where you are in your writing and book publishing journey, trust me when I say that I understand how scary and overwhelming it can feel, which is why I'd love to share with you some of the resources that have been absolutely invaluable to me since I began working on Sparks Fly back in 2016! Have you ever been reading a book when the author drops a fact-bomb on you that leaves you a little stunned, or pleased that you've learned something new?
This has happened to me a few times, and I love it., especially when it's a small detail you wouldn't have really noticed, but you're glad the author took the time to research and include. So, while writing Sparks Fly, whenever I came across something I wasn't 100% sure of, I took off down the research rabbit hole to see what I could find. Happy New Year!
I can't quite believe that 2022 is already here and hope you enjoyed the recent holidays! I had a lovely, very quiet Christmas during which I managed to fit in quite a bit of reading, getting through the first two books in TJ Klune's Green Creek Series. I'm currently on Heartsong (book 3) and loving it! What have you read lately? I am still working on Sparks Fly, albeit not in a very hands-on way, mostly through getting advice and reading more about self-editing. It's a new process for me that's taking some time to get the hang of, but I'm determined to have this book finished and available to read this year! In other writing news, at the end of last year, as part of the Self-Publishing Advice Conference, I submitted a Drabble (a piece of flash fiction of exactly 100 words) for feedback and it finally came back. The feedback I received was really encouraging and supportive, which gave me the confidence to share it here. First of all, welcome to my blog.
If you've read my work on Wattpad, or you've seen snippets of my writing on Twitter, and it's led you here, I can only thank you for taking a chance on me. My blog is new and right now it is NOT at the top of my list of priorities because I have finally taken the plunge and set myself a deadline to finish editing my WIP! |
