For the most part when I'm writing, I'm a plantser, which for me means that I often start writing an idea down, sometimes it's just a random scene, without really knowing where the story's going.
I love this way of writing because it allows my creativity to just run wild, and I often find my characters surprising me with new things I hadn't thought of before until they just pop out of my head while the words are flowing. The problem though is that I quite often find myself needing more; whether it's more insight into the characters or more ways to develop and move the plot forward. So, when I spotted Jessica Adren Cline's Kickstarter campaign last year called, 'Tarot for Fiction Writers', which promised lots of creative and fun ways to use tarot to inspire and develop stories, I knew I wanted to try it.

I’ve had this website and blog for a little while now but I haven’t used it much, aside from the podcast episodes. So, I figured it was about time I flexed my writing muscles for something other than my stories to share some insights into my life as a fantasy writer.
I’ll share things like character profiles, exclusive scene snippets, deleted scenes, book recommendations and some behind-the-scenes sneak peeks into my writing process. To get us started, I’m also launching a new feature called, Currently Obsessed With... This is where I’ll be chatting about some of the weird and wonderful things I’m currently obsessed with, from fantasy video games and book series, to podcasts and TV shows. It’s just a fun way for me to share some of my many current obsessions with you lovely people. At the moment, I’m currently obsessed with…Baldur’s Gate 3! This game has me HOOKED. Packed full of magic, chaos and morally questionable choices, it’s my perfect fantasy escape right now. Here are some of my favourite things about it...

I was thinking of doing an Ask Me Anything over on Instagram but just in case no one asks any questions, I figured this could be a fun alternative. (And there's the first thing to know about me: self-doubt is my constant companion.) I've enjoyed writing for as long as I can remember. I used to play around on my grandparents' typewriter, creating new stories and rewriting stories I'd read that I wished had ended differently. The first story I remember writing was about a young girl who discovered a magical portal inside a lighthouse. When she stepped through the portal she was transported to an underwater world where she could speak to the fish and other creatures (I watched A LOT of Bedknobs and Broomsticks as a child.) |
