This week, I want to share a quick review for a book that I finished reading last week. I was scrolling through Kindle Unlimited looking for an eBook to read alongside my current hardback novel - I like to read hardbacks/paperbacks when I'm downstairs and eBooks in bed, simply for the fact that my poor face has had far too many heavy books dropped onto it and my Kindle isn't quite as heavy! Plus, the backlight helps. - and I stumbled across Ethan & Jag Destroy the World by Maz Maddox. The cover really caught my eye and the book sounded like a fun, light-hearted read, and it didn't disappoint. This book was hilarious, and very low-angst!
It's a little like two books in one as there's a slightly shorter story at the beginning titled 'Demon All the Way' which is the story of how Jag and Ethan first met. "The frogs were weird and unsettling to say the least, but the last incident was the demonic flaming shark that broke the camel’s back." It reminded me quite a lot of Blasphemy by TJ Klune but with a few differences including the fact that this book is set mostly on earth instead of hell and involves a demon and not the actual devil. I absolutely adored Jag who is hysterical. The author really nailed the voice of a character who knows very little about earth and humans. "What kind of victory didn’t have flaying?" They're both very much cinnamon roll characters, and very cute together, especially as Jag grows to like Ethan and tries to impress him. The only thing that disappointed me a bit is how quickly Ethan & Jag got together, I would have liked more of a slow burn here, dragging the tension out as the two got to know each other a little more. The second half of the story is a continuation, several months after the first story ends, and deals with the earth-shattering consequences of Jag & Ethan's relationship. Ethan's best friend Olivia is a brilliant character in the second portion of the book and really adds to the laughs. “Focus, please.” Ethan rubbed his tired eyes. “We can get Olivia murder-laid later.” The book is spicier than I expected and includes a bit of a demonic kink (I'll let you make of that what you will 😅) but the story was lots of fun and I'm looking forward to reading more books by this author in future. If you like your romance with a splash of Demon (horns, two-tongues, and all) and lots of laughs, you'll love Ethan & Jag Destroy the World. “On your feet, mortal.” Jag tossed a bag of cotton webbing at him. “We have children to terrify.”
